Investigators: Peaden's Not Arson

Investigators looking into the fire at Peaden's Grill in Greenville say they have ruled out arson as the cause and believe it was electrical in nature, but for now have listed it as undetermined.

Chief Doug Branch with Greenville Fire and Rescue says they have finished their investigation and believe it began in the ceiling or attic. Branch says it would do more damage to investigate further so they let Peaden's insurance company take over.

Owner Terry Peaden says they are planning to rebuild and that process has already begun.

Peaden says this grill has been in his family since 1957 and there's been an outpouring of people saying they miss the restaurant already-- and that this fire has been a big shock to the Greenville community.

I'm so sorry that Peaden's burned down. Peaden's was a tradition here that meant so much. Yankees don't understand. We southern people care about each other. It wasn't like other restaurants. I've been up north. There isn't anything to eat up there. The people are rude and the food is pukey. No one even looks at you. Peadens was the best restaurant I've ever been too. The food was delicious. No comparison to up north food, if you call it that. No comparison to other restaurants. Everything else just doesn't taste the same. The people don't treat you the same. I hope they will rebuild Peadens because the world needs loving people who can cook, and we need a place to go where people care. Other people from other places will never understand because they don't know what they're talking about. They never experienced love shown in good cooking up north. The poor employees. I hope they can all come back. They're like best friends. I can't wait to eat some Peaden's french fries. World's best!

This has all been such a terrible blow to the owners, employees and customers of Peaden's. This was not just a restaurant; it was a FAMILY gathering place, where they really cared about you. I never ate there once without them asking about my daddy and mama, and knowing what I wanted to eat before I ordered. Most of the time they wouldn't even charge me. Lots of grills are just a place to eat, but Peaden's was HOME to us customers. I've never felt such love and acceptance as I did at Peaden's Grill. I've never felt so needed, wanted and nurtured as I did at Peaden's Grill. I've never loved any place as much as I loved Peaden's Grill. I've never loved any people like I loved the people at Peaden's Grill. And, they made the ABSOLUTE BEST cheese biscuits in the world, and hamburgers the like of which CAN'T BE FOUND anywhere else. Peaden's was simply THE MOST WONDERFUL place in the world. It's loss is an unspeakable tragedy. Greenville will NEVER be the same. God help us live on somehow.
