A hospital in the east has earned the American Heart Association's highest honor for stroke care quality.
Pitt County Memorial Hospital was presented with the ''Get With The Guidelines" stroke gold plus performance achievement award.
The award recognizes PCMH for maintaining high-quality stroke care for at least 24 consecutive months.
In 2007, the joint commission certified PCMH as the only primary stroke center in eastern North Carolina.
PCMH's certification was renewed in 2009.
