East Carolina University is preparing to welcome a best-selling author. Greg Greg Mortenson, author of "Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace … One School at a Time," will speak at ECU on March 1. The appearance is part of ECU's Cunanan Leadership Speaker Series.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in Minges Coliseum at ECU on March 1.
Mortenson's presentation is titled "Promoting Peace through Education." His best-selling book, "Three Cups of Tea" is about his journey that started with a failed attempt to climb the world’s second tallest mountain and ended with successfully building schools in remote regions of Central Asia. Mortenson continues that work today. He is the co-founder of the Central Asia Institute.
“Three Cups of Tea” by Mortenson and David Oliver Relin was chosen as the “Pirate Read,” summer reading selection for first-year students arriving at ECU in August 2009. Other schools in Eastern Carolina have made "Three Cups of Tea" required reading.
