Search Called Off In Pitt County

Police in Pitt County have ended their search for now for a man who ran from them following a traffic stop.

Farmville police say Nathaniel Hope took off on Highway 13 between Farmville and Greenville. He is still on the run.

Authorities say two shots were fired just before 6:30 p.m. in a wooded area behind Little's Nursery in Pitt County.

According to police, Hope is allegedly linked to a breaking and entering earlier Tuesday at a residence at 6307 Stantonsburg Road. Police believe that Hope stole firearms in the robbery.

A vehicle matching the suspect’s truck was spotted on Highway 13 near Little’s Nursery. Police spotted the white Jeep and pulled up to the suspect, that’s when he took off running into the wooded area.

No firearms were found in the vehicle. Hope is wanted on several warrants connected with firearms.

About a dozen law enforcement officers from Farmville police, Pitt County and Greene County had set up a perimeter around Little's Nursery. Pitt County K-9 units was also deployed.

Authorities tell us Hope does have a prior record.

Maybe the next time this joker breaks into someone's home to steal their firearms, the homeowner will be there, and will politely GIVE him the guns--one bullet at a time...

GPD: "Because if you are armed and dangerous and run, good luck, because we just aren't going to chase ya. We've got robberies and break-ins to arrive late to!"

Don't they know it is going to be to cold to stay the night in the woods, common since sit around there with your cars all night he will surface otherwise he will surface somewhere else like breaking into someone's home to get warm. Stupid to quit now.

So did they catch him? Did they get tired and quit? What's going on?
