Election Filing Begins!

This is the year, many State Representatives and local government officials will file for the primary election in May.

The filing period opened Monday at noon, with several candidates and incumbents coming into the Pitt County Board of Election for the first official filing day.

Many of the Pitt County Commissioners, from Kenneth Ross, Tom Johnson, and Reverend David Hammond came within the first hour.

Several State Representatives, like Stan Larson, who's running against Marion McLawhorn for District Nine and also Frankie Bordeaux, who will run for the North Carolina District Three also filed Monday.

Dave Davis, Pitt County Elections Director says he expects a big turnout this year.

No one signed up for the Sheriff's race, although we're told Sheriff Mac Manning will file later this week, along with his opponent, Neil Elks who's filing next week.

All candidates have until February 26th. The primary is May 4th.
