Smash & Grab Robberies In ECU Lots

East Carolina University police have a warning after several smash and grab robberies on campus.

ECU police say they've all happened at the Reede Circle commuter parking lots off 4th and 3rd streets. They say since the start of the semester -- at least five cars have been broken into. In every case, the windows are either busted out or soft top vehicles are cut open.

According to police, the thieves are looking for speakers, cellphones, chargers and anything else of value left inside vehicles.

Authorities say they've increased patrols in those areas, but still hope tips will lead them to the people responsible.

Police urge drivers to make sure their parked cars are locked and valuables hidden.

ECU is too busy stuffing their money into their 2nd rate football team. They need to focus more on security issues.

Carry a gun. I don't care if it is on campus. But it in your back pack. Or carry a taser from classes if not a gun. I had a guy try to open my car door and get in at the corner of 5th and Cotanch, as soon as I pulled out my .38 he ran like a little scared school girl.

YEs, that'sa joke. From what I heardd the parking lots are covered by outdated, antiquated cameras. Why doesn't the Chancellor give the OK to update all cameras on campus so ECU is in the state of the art video world instead of all the money goign toward athletics? Why does athletics take precedent over safety on campus?

Think of the money and heartache that could be saved if parents would raise their kids with basic values such as treat others the way you would want to be treated. Aren't the ECU lots covered by security cameras and adequate lighting?
