"Hooping It For Haiti" Is A Slam Dunk In Greenville

"Hooping It For Haiti" was the theme at the Greenville Parks and Recreational Center Saturday afternoon.

Kids from around the area were hitting the hardwood and raising money for a good cause.

The goal here was to raise as much as possible so the money or items could be sent overseas.

People were asked to bring can goods if they had any to spare or donate as little as a dollar.

Organizers say times are tough but they're not as tough as what the Haitian people are going through.

Officials were hoping to raise at least a thousand dollars which would then be donated to the Red Cross.

I think it is great when children come together for an important cause, however it greatly alarms me when 1. the US has given Haiti 100 million 2. the help for haiti telethon on larry king live drumed up over 58 million dollars with hollywood 3. the text message thing raised over 20 million Now why is it that we are unable to raise enough funds in the US to fund proper health care in the US but our own citizens and politicians and hollywood royalty find amazingly humanitarian to raise money for another country....wake up America lets fund ourselves first.

To use an outlet as this in a way that kids can help contribute is outstanding! Keep up the great work helping instill contributing atributes in these young people to one day become responsible adults.

There is enough being done to help Haiti we can stop now. I will donate nothing, and hope everybody else comes to their senses.
