POLICE: Marine Charged In Underage Sex Sting

A Camp Lejeune Marine is in jail, after Greenville police say he wanted to have sex with a 12-year-old who he met online.

Corporal Nicholas Weidner is charged with soliciting a child by computer. He's in jail on a $50,000 bond.

Police say the 22-year-old Weidner had more than one online chat with someone he thought was a 12-year-old girl. Police say he was arrested Friday when the Marine approached Elm Street park which was the pre-arranged meeting place. Police say he intended to have sex with the girl.

Greenville police say this is their first arrest as part of the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which the city joined just three moths ago.

r u a moron? it says he knew the girl he came to meet would be 12 yrs old!!! he was 22 yrs old!!! y r we trying to blend the lines? clearly this guy intended to harm a child and thanks to the guys/girls at GPD he was stopped. so whether this was a real girl or decoy who cares. there would have eventually been a real girl. that one girl who was likely saved was worth every dime, dollar, and resource spent. THANK U to everyone involved!

Now this is the types of things that Greenville Police need to look at. When a 22 year old goes to Greenville, a 12 year old should be one of the last things that he should be after for sex. This is a college town, which means plenty of girls within 5 years older to 4 years younger. He probably wont have a chance at any of the classy girls if they find out. They would not want anything to do with him. He screwed up big time. Disgrace to the USMC!

What about you women who look of age and are only 12-15yrs old? Some of those girls look like they are 18 and will tell you that they are as well. What happens when you have serious relationship with one and find out later that she is only 14? The man maybe 19-24 years of age? The parents are angry at this young man and he really likes this child. What happens? Is he a rapist because he fell in love and didnt know how old the girl was?

Obviously some of you know nothing about the law. It does not matter if a 12 year old girl comes onto a man, strips down naked and agrees to have sex with him. It is a crime. You must be 16 years old to consent to sex in NC. If someone is younger than 16 and the person they are having sex with is more than 4 years older than the child it is a crime. It is called Statutory Rape. You must be 16 to consent to sex for a reason, children do not understand the consequences of sex nor do they have the maturity to make such decisions. It is easy for an adult to maniputlate children into sexual acts- they know exactly how to pray on them to get what they want. If you are in doubt about the law or the consequences that may be faced contact your local police department or rape crisis center. Ignorance is not a defense!

Can't you folks read? He was online with someone he thought was a 12 year old child. Which means..... it was probably a female police officer pretending to be a 12 year old to help catch potential perverts.

Uh, did ya not read the part that said it was a sting and he THOUGHT it was a 12 year old girl? Unfortunately, there are young people out there trying to be too grown up. Thankfully this was a sting and the victim wasn't hurt! When you think of punishing the 12 year old, think of how mature she/he really is compared to the "persuasiveness" of a complimenting, flirting adult. Adults fall prey to the "compliments and lines" of other adults daily, so why would an unexperienced teen or pre-teen even, be any different?!!!!!
