Greenville Utilities says about 700 of their customers lost power after a car hit a light pole.
The Highway Patrol says the accident occurred at 12:51 a.m. Friday. A Toyota Avalon hit a light pole at the intersection of Old Pactolus Rd. and US 264.
GUC says they turned the power circuits off in order to allow rescue crews to get the driver of the car out of the vehicle safely. That knocked out power to about 700 people around 1 a.m. GUC says about 500 people had their power restored within 40 minutes once the driver was pulled from the car. The remaining 200 GUC customers, had power by 2:30 a.m., officials said.
GUC says the wreck snapped the light pole into two pieces. Crews installed an entirely new light pole.
The Highway Patrol did not have the name of the driver or their condition following the wreck.
