If you venture outside and work in the frigid temperatures, you will need to get used to it, because eastern Carolina is under a cold snap this week that could last longer than the average in our state.
For those who set up shop outdoors, like Maria Martinez, this is not weather for the weary. She says she spends from morning until sunset along County Home Road in Greenville Monday thru Friday. She sells oranges from Florida and says not only do the freezing temperatures affect the crop she and her father sell, but the weather does a number on her body.
"It's very cold, my hands are red you know, my face is very cold."
Martinez says she endures the weather by keeping her vehicle on so she can get a few minutes of warmth.
