Gas Prices Up, Travel Down For Holiday

Many people will be packing up and heading out this week traveling to go see their loved ones for the holidays.

But according to Triple A Carolinas, they're predicting travel to be down from years past because of the tough economy and high gas prices.

This time last year the average price of unleaded gas in our state was under two dollars at $1.61 and now the average price is $2.54.

That's almost a dollar more.

But despite the high price many in the east say that wouldn't effect them from going to see their families.

Triple A also also says the recent snow and possibility of more this weekend may also effect people's travel plans.

We are addicted to oil and need to check into rehab. I agree with 'W' who posted below.

So much for the supply and demand argument huh? The gas prices are manipulated by storing huge amounts of oil and shutting down refineries to limit supply. Oil is being held off shore and nearly every available tanker worldwide is being used. Gas supplies are at record levels despite cutbacks in refining and the price still goes up. The "free market" only exists in some peoples imaginations.

W, I can help you. Pinch yourself real hard so you can return to reality. Now, where's that individual who always talks about how much gas prices are lower now since obama became president? Gas prices $1 more this year than last year. Who are you going to blame now; bush? When you're med insurance rate goes up next year, who are you going to blame, bush? When you have to give part of your pay to help other countries and that money goes to the oppressors, who are you going to blame? When the mastermind behind 9/11 is aquitted and becomes a US citizen(how; because HE CAN'T GET A FAIR & IMPARTIAL JURY OF HIS PEERS HERE, as our justice system requires, case dismissed), who are you going to blame then? Is this the type of change you folks wanted? Merry Chrstmas everyone.

I wish that gas prices would continue to go up much higher and they'd use those funds to make driving pay for itself. I'm tired of these wars for oil and the pollution that these cars and trucks add to our environment. I am sick of strip malls with huge parking lots that result in higher prices so that people can continue their oil addiction. Raise the price to the European $8-10 a gallon and help us all become energy self sufficient instead of making the Middle Eastern countries richer.

One would think that if the fuel retailers and distributors would really want to help the economy at this time of the year, they would lower gasoline and diesel prices so people would drive more, buy more fuels, and spend more in stores. I just don't think they know the difference between greed and wanting to help people.
