It's going to be a merrier Christmas for some students at Pitt Community College thanks to a school sponsorship program that hands out gifts to students in need.
PCC's student support services or Trio teamed up with the college's Phi Theta Kappa honor society to hand out presents to 15 students and their families.
Trio is a retention program for at risk students organizers told WITN this is a way for the school to help students out during economic hardships.
This student as well as others handed in applications of what they wanted to purchase for their family members, specifically children.
Then Trio found PCC faculty and staff to sponsor a student and fulfill their wish list.
Students we spoke to say they won't keep anything for themselves.
Instead they'll be handing out things like bicycles, CD players, board games, and books to family members come Christmas.
