Christmas Tree Business Man Headed Back Home

If you haven't picked your Christmas Tree out yet this year time is winding down especially since some sellers are packing up early.

Mountain Boy Trees shutdown operations Thursday around 5PM in Greenville two days before planned.

That's because a big storm is moving into Avery County where the company is based and employees want to make sure they're home for Christmas.

But weather's not the only reason Mountain Boy is calling it quits this year.

Owners told WITN sales were down 30 percent last year and another 5 percent this year.

Mountain Boy Trees says they still made a profit and plan on coming back next year they've set up shop in Greenville for the past 35 years and call their operation a tradition.

I LOVE purchasing my tree from Mountain Boy Trees! They have the best selection, and every year, I have found the PERFECT tree. There is nothing like the smell of a fresh christmas tree when you walk into the house after a long day of work.

not to mention that fake trees are less 'eco-friendly' because of the manufacturing process, they have to be shipped in from china, take income away from our own North Carolinians, and are not recyclable...

Yeh, unfortunately Greenville is lagging behind other fast growing more populous less crime ridden cities...

Yes, brian , I am a member of PETA(People Eating Tasty Animals). I just like to breathe clean air while eating, and I feel live Christmas trees are a waste.

Chris, actually the trees sold are from tree "farms", grown mainly for Christmas sales. With your logic I guess you are with PETA and don't believe in farming either???

My family recently moved to Greenville, and were disappointed that there were no "living" trees that we could find here. We used to buy ones that were dug up and bagged so that after the holiday it could be replanted. I wonder if this is non-existent here?

Much rather have all those real Christmas trees still growing and taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. Killing all those trees, to decorate for a month is sooooo not eco-friendly.
