There's new information about a stabbing Friday at a Pitt County convenience store.
Deputies say Christopher Martinez has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
Authorities say Daren Riggs of Fountain was stabbed outside of the Chicod Citgo Food Mart on Highway 43. A news release says the 43-year-old victim approached the suspect's vehicle and made threats. Deputies say Martinez got out of the vehicle and stabbed Riggs. Riggs is still at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, recovering from surgery.
Martinez, who is 23-years-old, had his bond set at $50,000.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing that happened at the Chicod Citgo Food Mart on Friday.
The gas station and food mart is located on NC Highway 43 near the Chicod Elementary School.
Chief James Tripp says it happened sometime between 9 and 11pm. When WITN called Tripp at his home Sunday night he did not have the report in front of him.
Tripp says two males who have had an aggressive history in the past got into an argument. One of the males had gotten out of the car and the argument continued according to Tripp.
The victim was stabbed while sitting in the car as the suspect came back towards the vehicle during the argument.
Tripp says more information will be released on Monday including the names of those involved and charges that have been filed.
This is not the first time this gas station and food mart has been the scene of a crime.
Back in September, Tyrone Floyd and Dustyon Hann, both of Greenville, were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Pitt County deputies said the two robbed the Chicod Citgo Food Mart.
At the time Floyd's bond was set at $250,000, while Hann was jailed on a $150,000 bond.
Both men have court dates set for January 2010.
