Pitt County Detention Center Changes

The overcrowding issue is a problem the Pitt County Sheriff's Department is steadily working to fix.

As their new housing facility is slated to open in two months, they've now made headway by opening just a portion of the new jail Tuesday.

While it's not the portion that will alleviate the jail overpopulation problem, it will help the public along with officers in the county.

The booking and magistrate's office is now more stream lined and easier for officers to process inmates.

It also prevents the public from coming in contact with arrestees coming into the facility.

While Sheriff Mac Manning says he'd hoped to have the housing facility open by now, things should be opened by the first of the year.

With the addition of 192 beds, the full capacity of the jail will total almost 600 bunks.

Anonymous, if I were you I would not want people know I am either with such a stupid comment. So murder is looked badly by some people and thats why its illegal? Actually let me rephrase that, if someone murdered someone close to you, such as a family member, you would be okay with it and WANT them to walk the streets. I think not. Sounds to me like you have a rap sheet as tall as you are. Swing and a miss kid.

i will tell you how to solve this problem.stop putting people in jail for a so called crime, that does not involve any one but them self.do not try to so call save me,i have made it this long without any of your help.i have not asked you for anything,so i do not need your help.that is why there is over crowded jails, people getting locked up for something that someone else does not agree with.i do not like hunting and fishing but i do not think anyone should be locked up for it.if the fish and deer could talk, they would probably feel different about it.for those people that believe in doing what the law says not matter how you feel about it,why do we not ask the black people how they felt about the law when they could not use the same bathroom,or have the other rights the white people have.that was the law then.in other words if people should stay out of other peoples lives, live your life and do not try to control mine.let us leave it like god made it,free will.ever heard of it?

Put up some tent or make them dig fox holes and fence. If it is not cruel for the military to live that way, it should not be cruel for convicted prisoners.

Just need to rent some storage trailers for the overflow. Might even find some insulated ones cheap in this economy. Lets quit wasting taxes on repeatedly violent criminals.
