Caregiver Accused Of Stealing From Elderly Woman

A caregiver is under arrest, accused of stealing from an elderly woman.

Winterville police have charged Teresa Delong with 80 felony charges, including financial card theft, obtaining money by false pretense and financial card fraud.

Police say family members notified them when suspicious activity was detected by bank employees on their mother's checking account.

Delong was arrested Monday and is being held on a $100,000 secured bond.

I am praying for mrs. Delong I know everything will work out for her. she is a good person, and none of you people up here know the whole situation, so you should not pass judgment on her.

You must know the family too well because they are good people that will give you the shirt off their backs if you needed it I am sure you have bad weeds in your family just like they do but you are not GOD and dont have the right to pass judgement on anyone so please stop making a horrible situation worse with your stupid comments.

I AGREE!!I do not understand how someone thinks it could have been handled better. If you felt like your elderly mother had been taken advantage of or stolen from would you not contact the authorities and let them investigate???? And the insinuation that she was arrested because her employer had money and she had to work for a living is preposterious. She was not arrested by the family and she was not arrested without something pointing to her. I know her and some of her family members. She may go to church but that does not make them christians or even decent people. I know they are not good, or respectable and it has nothing to do with not having a lot of money. It is because they chose to be that way. Any person that knows the family members that I know, knows I am telling the truth. People need to stop feeling sorry for her and feel sorry the victim. If it is proven in court that she didn't do it she can always sue.

To the person that stated that the situation could have been handled in a better manner, what was the family supposed to do? Give her a slap on the wrist and say don't do it again. We are talking a quite a bit of money. If this happened to you, you would notify the authorities as well. So wake up and smell the coffee. The charges have been filed and now let the evidence prove that she is guilty. Once she is convicted maybe that will shut up you people who believe she was incapable of doing this. You never completley know someone no matter how long you have been aquainted with them.

I feel like the family of this "elderly" woman is the reason for all this meadia coverage of Mrs.DeLong and that is shocking for such CHRISTIAN people! I guess some people need to condemn others to feel good about theirselves but the DeLong and Jones family will overcome this event and God and ONLY God can punish or teach Mrs.DeLong anything. Something tells me the situation could have been handled in a better manner than this but to all those with something bad to say about this woman why what until she is locked away and can not defend herself? Are you scared of something?

To: Way(ne)....friend of the Delong family here and I just wanna say that since the accusers family trusted in the law so much to report a crime they should give the law time to determine guilt or innocence, and the amount of 30,000 was never mentioned in any report so your comment is biased!!

A hard life is no excuse and many people lose love ones and don't steal but if she did do this for what ever the reason maybe she can get help dealing with what ever demons she is battling, we all have them. And yes even good people, christian people make horrible mistakes that effect others. There is no one who can say they haven't. So why don't you just stop the holier than thou attitude and pray for her, her family and friends and the elderly lady, that have been hurt by this. I don't know why people feel the need to feed on others in times of dispair. If she did take money, God has already forgiven her and who are you to think you are any better. God does not see sin as big or small so perhaps you need to worry about your own short comings instead of judging everyone elses. I don't know this lady but i do know that everyone has made wrong choices in their life and if you think not being arrested makes you any better you are wrong. and i pray for you all.
