Jaycees: Greenville Christmas Parade Is Still On

Greenville is getting ready for a very busy weekend. The East Carolina football team will host the Houston Cougars for the Conference USA Championship game this Saturday. Game time is set for noon.

Also that day the Greenville Jaycees will hold the Greenville Christmas Parade. It is set to go on as scheduled despite the big game. The parade marches through downtown Greenville.

The Greenville Jaycees say the Greenville Police Department will put a contingency plan into effect to handle both the parade and the gameday traffic.

You can watch the parade live this Saturday right here on WITN.COM. It starts at 10 a.m.

The greenville christmas parade has always been this week end. Why change it for a football game. I know ECU fans think that everyone should accomodate them...Sorry! Im sure your kids would rather go the Christmas parade! Sacrafices!

Really Greenville? You want to go that route? I get that ECU does not set their schedule, but the parade was planned quite some time ago, and a lot goes into the planning of a parade, as well as receiving permits and getting the assistance of government agencies. It just comes down to people wanting to complain...I don't know why it's such an issue. Most of the parade is nowhere near campus or Dowdy Ficklin.

I think Greenville made a bad choice in keeping the parade on Saturday. The attendance and participation for it will clearly drop. Clueless- ECU doesn't have a choice of when to play the game. Conference USA decides the date and time.

People are clueless about what it takes to put on a parade. You just dont move a parade the week before you are to have it, for a football game. Yes I am a football fan and congradulations to the Pirates and good luck Saturday against a tough Houston team. Way not push the game back. LOL

My daughter and I are supposed to be participants in the parade on Saturday. I am pretty sure the reason they didn't reschedule is because you lose a lot of your floats/participants when you do that. A lot of those people in the parades are in multiple Christmas parades that are held on different weekends.

I was really hoping the Christmas parade would be rescheduled due to the big game. There are people that would like to participate in the Christmas parade and Pirate tailgating, but now we have to choose.

Seems to me that Sunday afternoon would be a better fit for the parade as a lot of people will be going to the game & not attending the parade & people might not go to the parade due to the traffic situation because of the game? The Jaycees & city of Greenville need to be smart about this as not often that ECU gets a home game for the conference championship.
