Black Friday Shoppers Camp Out In ENC

Despite the winds and the cold rain early this morning, many brave, bargain-hunting souls camped out at the local Best Buy in Greenville to be the first ones to get the hottest gifts for Christmas.

Here was the scene just before doors opened at five this morning.

Hundreds of people bundled up and lined up around the building.

Some folks pitched a tent early Friday morning to get the top spot.

12 year old Josh Smith says he and his dad waited 12 hours for one special present.

Best buy hopes these kinds of black Friday sales will get customers in the door even in a tough economy.

Several stores like Kmart, Target and Walmart also offered door busting deals which brought lines out for the sales.

The majority of them were high on drugs. I seen them on my tv. Wild-eyed and fanatical over a $29 video player or what not.

This is the meaning of Christmas? This is materialism - the desire to possess material objects. It is completely selfish. Rather than spending hours out in the cold to buy a TV, why not volunteer at your local soup kitchen or nursing home. Or, donate some money to help people who are struggling to put food on the table. Every time I see these lines it turns my stomach.

Bums, all of 'em. Spending my tax dollars on shiny trinkets. Living on the public dole and buying flashy tvs because they are on sale. Those people should have been at work. But no, they're single moms that refuse to get jobs and my tax money supports them. Then they go and buy junk they don't need. FOR SHAME.

@endurance...there ARE some great deals on that day - I have taken advantage of them in the past...but not this year. @lword...dumb comment. i am oppossed to the current administration, but your comment is just plain petty.

Please correct your survey question from "holiday's" to "holidays." Do not use singular possessive. All that is needed is a plural noun. WITN seems to have a problem in understanding the difference between possessive and plural.

How about reporting on the people who will not shop at all during this advent season and instead focus on it spiritual reason instead of those who buy the commercialism consumerism mythology?

What sort of man goes shopping? The same sort that watches Glee.
