Greenville Traffic To Get Train Relief

It looks like it's time for the trains to roll on out of here. Here being Greenville, which has been plagued with traffic tie ups because of a downtown railroad switching yard.

On Monday ground will be broken for the first part of the project to move the switching yard at a cost of $9,000,000.

Greenville has been working since 2003 to help improve traffic on Arlington Boulevard when CSX trains are performing switching operations.

Councilman Calvin Mercer says by the end of next year there should be virtually no switching done in the city, though trains will still come through.

This is fantastic news. Thank you God. I get caught in that mess at least twice a week. Any where from 3-10 minutes waiting for the train to go forward then backwards then again forward. Well you get the idea.

great, got stopped at the track at 5:05pm on memorial. And how about while we're doing this, repave the tracks on greenville blvd by walmart and on memorial by by the intersection at Dickinson. Doing nothing but throwing cars out of alignment and degrading tires at those two spots.

I recall several years ago there was a plan to build an overpass on Arlington Blvd. I guess the state (ECU) had more influence since the switching yard is incompatible with the new 10th Street connector.
