Thanksgiving may be still be a couple weeks away, but hundreds of Pitt County residents got a jump start on the holiday Friday.
That's becuase "H and H Transportation", a local Greenville transport service gave away 500 turkeys and hams to citizens in need.
The business offered the free meals to any citizen receiving social services assistance, and citizens over age 70. Crowds lined up early at the English Chapel Church on Evans street, and one grateful recipient, Angela Mills, says in this tough economy, a traditional Thanksgiving dinner might not have been possible without this kind of generosity.
"I thank God for this young man that brought this together because a lot of people out this time of year with the economy the way it is didn't have money to purchase a turkey or a ham."
This was the second year for the event and organizers say they hope to make it an annual tradition.
