Woman Pulled From Submerged SUV

A woman has two good Samaritans to thank for getting her safely out of her sunken car Thursday afternoon.

Troopers tell WITN News that the woman fell asleep at the wheel, her SUV hit a mail box and then went out of control. Her SUV ended up in a small stream that was swollen with flood waters.

It happened on Highway 43, south of Greenville.

The Highway Patrol says a passing motorist and a neighbor pulled the woman, who is in her 60's, to safety. She was sent to Pitt County Memorial Hospital for only minor injuries.

In the average driver's history, how many people do you think have ever had an incident of dozing at the wheel? I'm going to bet most of us have. I have. It takes one or two incidents for most people to learn to be more cautious, and take more precautions so that it doesn't happen again. We have no way to know if this was the first time it happened for this individual - maybe. Now if she's in the news again in a month and has done it again, THEN I might get critical about it. Glad she got help.

As bad as the weather was yesterday, she should have been more alert or just stayed in.

Definitely thanks go to the people who stopped to help. My daughter had an accident yesterday on I-40. She was stuck in her car and waited 30 minutes for help to arrive. Despite the heavy traffic, no one stopped to see if she needed help.

I am glad she is okay and that someone decent got her out before a thug came along. But,this "I fell asleep" story is older than the dog eating homework.
