Fifth Street Closed In Front Of Chancellor's House

One of the old trees that line Greenville's Fifth Street came tumbling down Thursday morning.

The oak tree, directly in front of the ECU chancellor's house, was leaning most of the morning toward the Art Building. The fallen tree has blocked 5th Street as workers clean up the mess.

There's no word on how long 5th Street will be closed.

To: To the Pirate Lady and RS: if you read the original article yesterday morning, it said "science building". WITN has since gone back and corrected their mistake. Dave, your snarky comment is duly noted.

If a tree falls in the street and no one is there to complain about it... does it still make a sound? lol

THE TREES ARE BEAUTIFUL. PLEASE DONT START A CAMPAIGN TO HAVE THEM REMOVED. THEY ACTUALLY OFFER PROTECTION TO PEOPLE , BUILDING ETC PROVIDE MUCH NEED SHADE IN THE HOT, SULTRY MONTHS. SO WHAT IF A LIMB BREAKS OUT OCCASIONALLY OR ONE MIGHT BLOW OVER big deal ! If some one had eliminated you when another child fell , You wouldnt be here to complain today.

When I went by on the bus they were just standing around looking at the tree and had taped off the area. I am sure it took them hours to take care of this problem as it was 9 am when I saw it.

I don't know if you know RS but sometimes WITN will change the article after viewers make comments about mistakes. Just so you know and do not bash others. It is not nice. Thank you. nautilus

To Pirate Lady... Did you read a different article than I did? It did not mention the science building. It plainly states "was leaning most of the morning toward the ART BUILDING" duhhhh

The article said the oak tree was leaning most of the morning toward the ART BUILDING...NOT the Science Building. hmmm???
