Write-In Candidate Wins Alderman Race

A write-in candidate has won a town council seat, and now election officials are checking to see if he wants the job.

Pitt County elections director Dave Davis says Earl Aldridge received 23 write-in votes for the fifth seat in the Grimeland alderman race, compared to Gerald Whitley who got 17 votes. In fact, Aldridge ended up receiving the second most votes among the six candidates.

Since there were no provisional ballots cast in Grimesland, Aldridge won the position.

Tuesday's election will become final after a canvass on November 10th.
