I came back to this story to read the additional posts today and I must say I'm very excited about Ms. Smith. I can't wait to meet her and can't wait to see her in action.

I agree with A Black Man. And from what I heard on Pirate Radio yesterday when they spoke to Kandi, she is of the same mind set as A Black Man, and as a black woman myself, I find that refreshing. You are never going to change minds by being divisive, as it appears Ms. Council was.

Thank you also, Black Man,for one of the most intelligent, thought provoking posts I have read on this site...If only everyone felt as you do, we could all certainly get along...I am in awe at your insight into today's problems...Again,my thanks.

Thank you, Black Man, for your post. Hearing thoughts such as yours makes me think we might all be able to get along one day. You are right, there are plenty of racists in both of our races, but with people who think like you and me we can possibly get past all of this one day. Mrs. Council stirred up racial issues in order to keep her hold on power because that is all she had. I hope to see Ms. Smith work hard and make a difference. Signed, a white conservative.

I'm glad the results are in and Ms. Smith will hopefully work hard for all in Greenville not just a select few like it appeared Mrs. Council did. Let's hope we as a community can work together and not live in the past and think someone owes us anything. Hard work and be held accountable for ones actions will make one a success. Way to go Greenville for electing a good City Council and way to go Ms. Smith.

As a black man I can say that I am glad to see Mrs. Mildred Atkinson Council out of this seat. I've seen racism, I've been a victim of it, I have been with people of my color who were extremely racist, and Council allowed it to continue in these last 22 years. She didn't help black folks, she used black as an excuse for all problems. Me being black is not a problem or an excuse for me, I'm proud of it and wouldn't change it, and I got tired of hearing that I need something from somebody because I am black. Mrs. Council can take her race baiting, race excusing, race card using self right on out of here and Greenville will be better for it. And to Ms. Kandi, please don't follow the lead of this woman, make us proud as a leader and rep who is black.
