University police say a woman who reported that she was raped in an ECU classroom building has been arrested for making up the attack.
The alleged attack happened on June 24th in a bathroom at the Austin Building on campus. The woman told police her attacker possibly had a knife.
Shadia Moore is charged with filing a false police report.
Police says after an extensive investigation, including SBI lab analysis, it was found there was no assault. The 21-year-old Moore was arrested Monday on the misdemeanor charge and released on a $1,000 bond.
“Our primary concern is the safety of the ECU community-students, faculty, staff and visitors,” ECU Police Chief Scott Shelton said. “We take every reported crime seriously, but at the same time, we must be vigilant for false reports that just cause unnecessary concern and worry on the campus.”
The university says Moore is still a student, classified as a freshman. She has a December 1st court date.
