Mall "Smash & Grab" Nets $35,000 To Thieves

Police say $35,000 in jewelry was taken in a smash and grab at the Greenville Mall Thursday night.

Around 8:45 p.m. police say three to four men broke the glass display cabinet at the Gems and Gold, a kiosk in the mall.

A police reports says approximately 60 gold necklaces with gold and diamond charms were taken.

Police say the thieves ran out of the mall through the food court, damaging a glass door on the way out.

Anyone with information about this theft should call Pitt-Greenville CrimeStoppers at 252-758-7777.

To people wondering the race...they were black and wearing black attire from head to toes...I work a couple of kiosk away from them and saw most of it. Also this is not the first robbery at the mall anonymous! What about the Rack Room Shoes incident not long ago! and the Piercig Pagoda getting robbed by one if its employees! and well all the sunglasses that they snatch and run from the sunglass hut! The mall def has a security problem...and its not even Christmas time yet i would expect more of this as this holiday gets closer.

@Anon - my comment was based on the evidence I see of lower quality stores, vacancies and a lower base in quality of shoppers. Personally, I prefer to go to Crabtree in Raleigh. There used to be a kitchen store: gone, there used to be a booktore: gone, there used to be a toy store: gone, there used to be a hobby store: gone...shall I go on?

I go this mall a never see anything unusual. God you people will say anything. What makes the mall bad when there is just one robbery? You act like a robbery happens every day.

I used to shop that mall several years ago...but the past few years the quality of tennants and the over-all level of customer has really dropped. I was there about a week ago and turned around and left within about a half hour or less. I do not know what color the perps were - but it doesn't matter -- that mall is going downhill...kinda like Carolina East Mall did. Yes, Greenville DOES have a crime problem.

This is why I have not stepped foot in Gr'ville in going on three yrs. I can stay in my small town, shop, and save gas. I don't need fancy environments for the basics. I have family in the U.S. and read their news too. This is all over. A certain segment of society is to blame; substance abuse, low-base mentality, low-based rearing, are to blame. MTV promotes the 'Gangsta' mentality. I watch/read everything, so I am informed. The MTV gangstas get awards from jail, and when they are 'offed' by other 'Gangstas', it's quite a send off/funeral. If your young person's role model is a gangsta singer or pole-dancer, what can you expect? Problem is, they know how to deal with 'their own kind', but moral, decent, honest folks like their Mom & Dad don't have the 'gangsta' mentality, and maybe don't see it coming. Or it could be as Mike posted; an inside job? a planned hiest?

There must be a gold sale down on West 5th. Will trade for drugs or EBT cards. Hey, someone has to take up the slack of the Gville Stop 1 and 2.
