Jacksonville is now the largest city in Eastern Carolina, that from new state estimates.
According to the Office of Management & Budget, Jacksonville now has 81,873 people, compared to Greenville with 81,092.
Overall, Jacksonville is now the state's 10th largest city, and Greenville the 11th.
Other cities in the east on the list are Rocky Mount with 59,228, Wilson at 50,643, Goldsboro with 37,661, New Bern with 26,153 and Kinston at 22,808.
Onslow County remains the largest county is the east with an estimated 176,004 people. Pitt County has a population of 155,570.
