A local candidate says he's received e-mails and verbal death threats recently and he says it all stems for comments made about a newly constructed park.
Calvin Henderson is running in Winterville's mayoral race. He says he has been the target of death threats on an issue unrelated to his campaign.
Henderson says it came after a park was build in his neighborhood, without input for the community. He says Winterville's board named the park after a water tower. Henderson thought the citizens should have a voice in the naming of the park.
Henderson says when he spoke up about it ---a Winterville alderman made this a race issue. Now, Henderson has received calls at his home with someone on the other end threatening his life.
Winterville police say they are in the beginning stages of the investigation and will subpoena phone records in order to find the person responsible.
