Greenville Motorcycle Accident

A motorcycle accident just outside of Greenville shut down a busy intersection Thursday afternoon.

Crews responded to the crash at the intersection of Fire Tower Road and Portertown Road involving a single motorcyclist.

Greenville Police say the rider of the red Harley-Davidson slammed on his breaks near the stop sign on Portertown road causing the bike to dump over.

Traffic was backed up for 30 minutes as crews surveyed the scene.

Authorities say the rider of the motorcycle was conscious and alert and was taken to the Pitt County Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

gvlbiker... Rest easy. I went down in 93 spent 21 days in the hospital and yes I am still riding today. And yes my accident was caused by someone else who turned into me.

I am the biker who was involved in the accident. To set the record straight, the accident happened because some idiot turned left in front of me and caused me to have to hit the brakes hard to avoid a collision. The worst part of it was the driver committed a criminal act by leaving the scene, with absolutely no regard for my condition. As for my condition POPPA, i had to be taken to PCMH in an ambulance, where they diagnosed me with three broken ribs and a broken collarbone, along with multiple abrasions and severe bruises. For your information Bozo (aptly named), motorcycle riding is not a crime. This would never have happened if drivers would pay a little more attention. Who's the victim here? Get a clue, will you? Thank you bikers for your support here, and ride safe.

To BOZO: same time they get rid of the idiots that drive vehicles and don't look where they are going. Motorcycle drivers are more cautious than an automobile driver for one simple reason: they have to drive for themselves and be aware of drivers that don't pay attention. Have you ever seen anyone shave, put on makeup or read a newspaper while operating a motorcycle. No...well enough said.

When are they going to get rid of those darn things? What a nuisance to the driver and everybody else on the highway.

This is a dangerous intersection. Poorly designed with accidents at least weekly. I suppose someone will have to die in an accident there before they do anything about it.

I used to have one, got rid of it due to heavy unobservant drivers. I'm glad the fellow walked away. Hope he will get someone else to own this dangerous contraption or better yet put the thing away, for good. This is a warning for him and other bikers. The brakes will lock up just as it happened to this driver. Could have been much worse. Good luck young man, hope you haven't broken any body parts. This incident could be a calling for you.
