Car Slams Into Wrecker, Store In Pitt County

Two people were struck when troopers say a teen driver slammed into a wrecker truck parked in a parking lot of a convenience store.

It happened Tuesday night just before 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of Mills Road and Highway 43 near Winterville.

The Highway Patrol says Dustin Soddy was traveling west on Mills Road when he crossed the intersection, and struck a wrecker truck and the vehicle hitched to it-- which were parked in the parking lot of Hollywood Grill.

The crash caused considerable damage to the business, which is now closed.

The wrecker truck driver, Jeffery Waller, and Joey Adams were standing near the truck, when troopers say Soddy ran into it, pushing it into the two men.

All three had to be transported to the hospital.

We're told Soddy is in critical condition, while the two others were treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers say they believe the 17-year-old driver fell asleep at the wheel and charges are pending after further investigation.

"It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt." Prayers are needed for Dustins recovery - he has a long road ahead of him to get better. Dustin had a torn aorta which has been repaired with surgery on Wednesday afternoon. A stint was used to make the repair. He had a laceration to his liver which will heal on it's own. Dustin has many scratches bumps and bruises. He has many laceration to his head and face that required stiches. LOTS OF STICHES! Dustin had a concussion. He also has some fluid around his lungs as well as some severe contusion's (bruise)to his lungs. He is on a ventilator, feeding tub and lots of medication. You may send cards to: Dustin Soddy PO Box 2404 Winterville, NC 28590 **************************** From his family a big Thank You! God Bless

I have known Matt and Tasha for over 15 years. They have and will always be good parents. Dustin is a very mature and respectful young man. We should all wish for a son like him. I pray for his recovery.

My prayers are with the family and the teen. No one wants to see their baby (no matter what age) in such a bad way. God can heal all so keep the faith and know even strangers are praying for you.

This comment area is not for people to fight over what store is better...this is a place to leave prayers and GOOD heart warming comments to the soddy family! A teenage boys life is at stake and all people care about is if the store is opening back up. At this point that doesn't matter and neither does what cause him to cross the intersection!!! I know Dustin from when him and my brother wrestling together in middle school...he is a great kid and no one is perfect! Dustin im praying for you and your family darling and i have faith that you are going to recover! Hang in there!!!!
