Pitt County Health Department Offers Flu Shot

The Pitt County Health Department has gotten there flu vaccines and Saturday morning many came out to get their flu shot.

The health department was open Saturday from 9am to noon.

Many signed up to get their flu shots which cost about 20 dollars.

A spokesperson for the health department says about 36,000 people die each year in the US from the seasonal flu.

The flu season typically kicks off during the winter months of January and February.

Health Department officials are encouraging people to get the shot now. If you missed Saturday you can always call and make an appointment.

@Dumber: Head over to Wikipedia and look up "vaccine". In short, the vaccine does contain the virus, but it's been killed, e.g. with heat. Your immune system still tries to fight it, and is thus prepared to defeat the real deal. You still might get reactionary symptoms, but they are much more minor than the flu itself. However, I am not a doctor, and this is only free advice from the Internet. Speak with your doctor if you have concerns.
