Some schools have seen an increase in kids being absent which could be the result of the flu.
Some schools in Beaufort County have seen a higher than normal amount of kids out this year. Bertie County's absentee rate is 67 percent higher as compared to a year ago, while Pitt County says they have seen spikes in kids calling out, but say it's nothing to sound the alarm about.
Schools are continuing to take precautions against the flu by continually wiping down surfaces and reminding kids to wash their hands and sneeze and cough into their sleeves.
