People all across eastern Carolina were involved in community service on September 11, a day President Obama has declared a national day of service.
The president said the day is an opportunity to salute the heroes of 9/11, unite, and lend a helping hand.
About 25 local volunteers did their part in Pitt County. They improved the home of disabled Greenville resident Michaele Dodrow by replacing space heaters with baseboard heating and re-painting several parts of her house for free.
"Rebuilding together," a non-profit organization, headed-up the event. Their goal is to help low-income home-owners fix up their residences for free.
