Highway Patrol says a head-on collision could be the result of a driver under the influence.
Officers say 52 year-old William Barnes Junior of Fountain was travelling on Highway 222 and 258 Wednesday night when authorities say he crossed the center line, went off the road and the returned to the highway -- before slamming head on into another driver.
Troopers say Barnes was driving under the influence, wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and was thrown from the vehicle.
Barnes went to the hospital with serious injuries. The other driver he hit is OK.
Troopers have charged Barnes with DWI. More charges are pending.
