Don't be surprised if you hear a loud siren and a message right after it as you pass by ECU this weekend.
The university is testing it's new outdoor emergency alert system. There are eight sirens spread across campus.
Some people told WITN they could not understand what the person was saying over the loud speaker.
ECU officials say it is a work in progress and that's why they are testing the system. Tom Pohlman, ECU's environmental manager, says, "They are suppose to be loud enough so you can understand what is being spoken but not so loud that it disrupts other things off campus if possible."
The university will continue testing the system at noon, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday.
