NEW INFO: Man Killed In Hit & Run Accident On Highway 264

The Highway Patrol has narrowed down the car they believe struck and killed a Washington man this past weekend.

Linwood Webb, Jr. was killed early Sunday morning when his moped was hit from behind on Highway 264. Webb was thrown 175 feet by the impact of the crash.

Troopers now say they're looking for a 2001-2006 Volkswagen Jetta station wagon with damage on the right front. They do not know the color. They were able to narrow that down thanks to car pieces found at the accident scene, including a piece stamped with the VW logo.

Troopers are asking anyone, including area body shops, who knows of a Jetta with front end damage to immediately contact them. They also ask if you know someone who drives a Jetta station wagon who now parks it differently, or that you haven't seen lately to give troopers a call.

Previous Story

A man was killed Sunday after state troopers say a car struck his moped and kept going.

The accident happened early Sunday morning on Highway 264 near the intersection with Highway 30 in Pitt County.

Troopers tell WITN News that 51-year-old Linwood Webb, Jr. of Washington was thrown some 175 feet in the air, and landed on the side of the road. A passing truck driver saw the body and called authorities around 4:00 a.m.

Webb was driving his moped toward Washington.

Troopers say judging by the damage, they believe a car struck the moped. That car should have front end damage.

Anyone with information on this deadly hit and run should contact the Highway Patrol office in Greenville.
