DMV Closing Driver License Offices To Get Ready For Switch

If you plan to get a drivers license this week in Eastern Carolina you might want to check first. That's because the DMV will be changing over 14 offices in the East to its "central issuance" system.

The offices will have to close for a half day for the switch.

Under the new system customers will no longer get their new licenses on-the-spot. Instead, they will receive a temporary driving permit with the license mailed to them in seven to ten days.

The DMV says the change will protect against identity theft and address fraud.

So far it has been 15 days and I cant cash my paycheck. I hope me 20 driving "paper" doesn't run out. No telling when they will mail me another one.Thank North Carolina!!

HELLO? anyone who says this is a good idea-hope you don't have your wallet stolen the day before you have to catch a flight-has anyone even thought about that-who has 5-10 days to be without an id?

THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED 12 YEARS AGO AND MAYBE MY IDENTITY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN USED TO GET A NORTH CAROLINA DRIVERS LICENSE BY A CRIMINAL HABITUAL FELON.

Who ever made the law to make this change at the DMV is an idiot! Who is going to pay the postage? It already costs us too much to get a license and license plate. Why should we have to risk the chance of our license getting lost or stolen in the mail?

It is really fun to view these comments, especially when people just try to find fault with everything. First of all, if a person wants to steal your license out of your mailbox, they will have to know when you are going to dmv, check your mailbox everyday for the next 3-10 days and then most of all have to look like you in order to use it. What about income tax checks? I don't see the difference in having your license sent in the mail and getting a check in the mail that could be for thousands of dollars. Secondly, the cost of a driver license should go up. What else can a person get for four dollars a year that is as important as a license. We pay $28 for a vehicle registration every year and the license is good for 5-8 years. Come on, find better things to gripe about.

Buster: Sorry but examiners are worked to death as it is now;they certainly don't have time to clean the sign machine every time someone uses it...if you want it clean, bring your own towel.....try walking in the examiner's shoes before making comments...believe me,we clean them when we have a few minutes, but that's not often....as for the new system, sure it sucks, but examiners don't make the rules, the idiots in Raleigh do...we don't like them any better than you do..

You know that little viewfinder style machine the DMV has you lean your head down onto to take the signs test? It has a bar/switch across the top so that when your head presses down on the bar the machine turns on. Well, have you ever noticed the layers of oily, filth covering that bar? Clean the thing! It looks like somebody sprayed it with Pam and then sprinkled it with dirt and hair.

They already charge $32 for a new license now. How much will they go up to after the change? We know there is something else to this.
