A woman was hit by a car Friday night as she was going for a jog.

It happened just before 7:30pm near the intersection of Forlines Road and Frog Level Road in near Winterville.

A Highway Patrol spokesperson says the woman was running in dark clothing and there was heavy rain on the roads.

Trooper JJ Smith says her name and condition were not available at this time.

The driver of the car that hit her told Highway Patrol that she was running on the shoulder of the road.

Pedestrians have the right of way - drivers need to learn to get off the phone and pay attention.

I wish a speedy recovery to the injuried jogger. Joggers must remain vigilent. The unhealthy, donut eating, cigarette smoking, texting drivers do not care about the health of the joggers they encounter.

I hope this woman is ok but there sure was a lack of good judgement on her part. That's why use my treadmill to exercise...Some drivers don't care abuut the welfare of pedestrians

I pray she is okay as well! I am a runner in town too and find it to be very dangerous on the roads. There is not enough greenway yet to safely run long distances. I have had things thrown at me from passing cars. Hopefully she will fully recover! One thing I use: http://www.roadid.com. I recommend to all runners out there.

please have some compassion for this injured person...make comments about how people should be more prepared but think about her, her family and friends before you make such rude comments...thank you

Who but a moron runs in dark clothing, on a dark rainy night and not expect that they could be hit?

i hope/pray this woman is ok. greenville has very little runner/biker friendly roads. i ran that road for years and people get very impatient at that intersection.
