It's a scenario no one hopes to be in, but if you're ever in need of a blood transfusion you'd expect the blood to be available, but that's not always the case.

During the summer the months, the American Red Cross experiences lower levels of donations, but a higher need for blood.

The reason is due to higher numbers of traffic accidents.

So the American Red Cross and the Highway Patrol are teaming up to educate the public on the importance of safety and being proactive now just in case you or your loved on is in an accident.

There will be a public blood drive with the American Red Cross and the Highway Patrol at the Boys and Girls Club on July 28th from 1PM to 6PM.

This collaborative effort between the NC Highway Patrol and the Pitt County Chapter of the American Red Cross is a unique partnership the two have established to raise awareness of accidents and the need for blood donations during the summer. Although the Highway Patrol, in every county in the state, is pushing the importance of road safety they just have not teaming up with the Red Cross to help with their blood donation drive.
