Remembering Blackley & Kirby

Memorial services were held Thursday night for the two men killed early Tuesday morning outside of a Greenville nightclub.

A viewing for Landon Blackley was held in his hometown of Oxford, while the funeral for Andrew Kirby was held in Kenly.

Tissues were in everyone's hands as tears flowed from friends, family members, and Kirby's fellow co-workers at Michelangelo's Pizza. Even though the hearts weighed heavy, the light of Andrew Kirby's true spirit came through.

Patricia Hundley said, "It's something so unexpected and so hard. And the outpouring of the love from the people here. It's just good to see people come together and care about one another."

People came from all over filling Saint Mary's Free Will Baptist Church in Kirby's hometown.

Kirby, manager at the Michelangelo's downtown -- was best known for giving a smile with a slice any night of the week. But, when the memorial service ended, people inside say it was a simple note, posted on our own WITN website, that brought every one to tears.

The pastor read a posting from an anonymous mother word-for-word, describing Kirby as a hero for pushing her son away from the bullets--saving his life. She also calls Kirby a guardian angel.

The family will hold a private service at the gravesite Friday morning where Kirby will be laid to rest.

Funeral services for Landon Blackley will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm in Oxford.
