A 17 year old now faces a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a man at the Greenville Stop One.

Greenville Police say David McLawhorn was arrested and charged Friday for the murder of William Powell the third.

On Saturday June 6th, officers say McLawhorn shot and killed Powell at the Watauga Avenue convenience store.

They say the shooting was the result of a robbery of marijuana and money gone wrong.

McLawhorn was also charged for armed robbery and assault on a child that happened on May 4th when police say he robbed a 25 year old woman at knife point and pushed her 3 year old son to the ground.

That incident happened at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. McLawhorn's in the Pitt County Detention Center under no bond.

Wish we had eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth, I bet that would cut down on alot of crimes. But of course that's only wishing...

This is another example of the system failing our youth. This young man has been in and out of the system but nothing has changed in his life to keep him from picking up a gun. Not that there is any excuse for his behavior, and never a good reason to take another person's life but we have to find the answer to the problems. Our young people are our future and right now without serious change the future looks very grim. The bottom line is we have to change the system to make it count, the youth are not learning how to be responsible for their own actions. We have to be firm or we will continue to be their victims and I refuse to be a victim. Yes the system is failing, but only because it is a weak joke. Let's put them away and make it count, let's change the way they serve and see it. Let's make the system tougher on the juveniles who don't want to be productive members of our society. Let's fix the system and lock them away.

Obviously this tragic event has revealed once again that Eastern NC has serious race issues.Mr. T I'm sorry but the "rope & tree" method won't work, that's already failed, remember!Pres. Obama's Stim Plan surely didn't cross this troubled person's mind while committing his crimes.I will agree that the welfare system should do a better job of screening applicants b/c it has become a long term solution when it was designed to be a short term one, or was it???I think the real prob w/ what has happened is for a certain segment of society your comfort zone or security net is thought to be compromised, causing fear.Truth being told fear is what's being felt around the globe. When it comes to class, race, religion no one wants to respect the other side b/c of the differences. But the one catalyst that we all overlook everytime is the MEDIA.They look for the stories that divide, rarely unite. If this "boy" was orange and he killed someone lime green my heart would ache for both families jus d same

Yeah Bob....He will have some SLICK Lawyer stand up and BLAME society, the school system, and his parents for his actions. And the sad thing is a jury will buy into it!

This kid looks like a straight up punk, I hope He gets it handed to him in prison, hopefully he doesn't have kids that are going to grow up as the trash he was.

Just wondering, what does Pres. Obama have to do with this situation? He is not the father of this individual, has just taken office and yet, you are blaming the lack of parenting on him? Give me a break! It is not the responsibility of the government, school system or judicial system to raise children. It is the responsibility of the parents. If you can't raise your children to be responsible, productive human beings, perhaps you need to get off of welfare and contribute to society! For all of you welfare recipients who claim your disability is because "your back hurts", who cares? My back hurts from bearing the burden of supporting your useless self and the off-spring of your many amorous encounters while your back was hurting!!
