One Person Injured In Dump Truck Crash

Two drivers were injured Monday after a car somehow got in the path of a truck.

It happened off of NC 903 in Winterville around 6 P.M.

Highway Patrol Troopers say one car made a left-hand turn in front of dump truck.

The dump truck hit the car on the drivers side door and both cars ended up in a ditch on the side of the road.

Winterville firefighters had to cut the top off of the car to get the person inside out.

The fire chief says he was taken by EastCare to Pitt County Memorial Hospital -- where his condition is unknown.

The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital -- but escaped injury.

Highway Patrol says the driver will be charged with failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign.

They only use the Helicopter when it is necessary. I'm sure the the Winterville rescue would have been used if injuries allowed b/c using that bird cost a pretty penny.

Rather than sit here and waste my effort to type some form of smart reply or try and defend the actions to the Fire and EMS crews on scene yesterday, I will simply ask that anyone with suggestions on patient care feel free to stop by the station and discuss it with us. We can all learn more from sharing ideas with each other. Furthermore, I would invite anyone to come and do a ride along with either Fire or EMS in Winterville, we would love the opportunity to show our citizens what they are investing in, the training we receive and the job we do. Thank you to each of you that have chose to defend the firefighters and paramedics which were being criticized. We are use to it, but knowing that we do have supporters out there is a comfort and a louder thank you than could ever be spoken.

I have had the privilege of working with some of the EMS people from Winterville in the past when I worked for Bell Arthur and Pitt County EMS they are some of the finest EMT's and Medics I have ever met! I just hope you don't get hurt near there or anywhere and need EMS with that attitude AN Mouse! People like you need a change in life.It is people like you that run off at the mouth and say harmful things and when you need EMS you are all sweet. I hope if you are hurt they show you the kind of treatment you need. Lord if it were me coming to get you I would make sure you get real special treatment. Like a 14 ga.IV in each arm and all the tape on the hairy places! You need to think differently about what you say about volunteers and paid people.Have you ever got out in the rain or snow or heat to help a person in need you have never met? I doubt it! God bless the EMS and FIRE Crews~! It is a thankless job!We do it because we love people, not for the money!
