Eastern Carolina Pauses To Remember War Dead

Rain didn't keep people in New Bern from honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Governor Beverly Perdue joined approximately 200 people at New Bern's National Cemetery Monday morning.

Many other communities paused on Memorial Day, setting aside picnics and family events to pay respect to those who have died in battle.

Here are some of the services being held:

Beaufort County: Washington veteran's Park on 3rd Street in Washington. 11am

Craven County: The Craven County Veteran's Council will hold its annual Memorial Day program at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 25th. This program will be held at the New Bern National Cemetery. The Governor is slated to attend.

Edgecombe County: Five members of the Rocky Mount-based N.C. National Guard 1132nd Military Police Company, along with all fallen soldiers, will be honored Monday at a memorial service at the Rocky Mount Veterans Memorial at Jack Laughery Park at 11am.

Lenoir County:
The American flag will be raised at the Lenoir County Courthouse on Queen Street. Veterans will travel to the Memorial at the Richard S. Caswell and CSS Neuse Historic Site on Vernon Avenue for a brief ceremony before going to places flags on veteran's graves.

Pitt County: Greenville Town Common at 11am
