Welcome To The Real World ECU Grads!

The rain held off Friday night for nearly 3,500 ECU students to receive their diplomas at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium during graduation ceremonies.

Commencement took place under the lights for the first time in recent school history.

Lieutenant General Gary l. North, Commander of the 9th Air Force and U.S. Air Force Central and an East Carolina alumnus, delivered the keynote address.

Some students received special awards and acknowledgments. One graduate says she's glad to finally be done, but the real challenge is trying to find a job. Emily Taylor says, "I'm working on a job. I have a couple of offers out there. I'm actually an education major. I taught first grade in my internship this past semester. And so, I'm hoping to get a job, maybe in Greenville, maybe somewhere in North Carolina."

Departmental graduation ceremonies will take place on Saturday.

My cousin has an Economics BA from Duke and works as the store manager of a FYE record store for a little over 30k with 100k in debt. I have a Economics BS and MS from ECU (no debt)and a job with the federal government that pays 65k with benefits ( I was also in the military prior). --- Duke is NOT better!

And since density seem to run amuck in the world of Oz let me be the awesome and powerful one. ALL universities send out their own batch of morons. What makes a scholarly graduate is the student. If the student refuses to apply themselves it wouldn't matter if you sent them to Yale. In the same context if you are a cashier at walmart and apply yourself to even a night course, you can be a successful graduate ready for you place in the world. Now that we have that out of the way, perhaps you should request a heart to tinman. The jury is still out on courage, we will see about that contingent on your response or lack thereof.

Hey wizard, you are definately in oz. Duke is not that much better than ECU. I give you a prime example - Sheldon Williams, a duke grad who couldn't find his own posterior with both hands and a flashlight. And also couldn't put forth a sentence to elaborate on his dilemma if his life depended on it. And for your information, oh insightful (NOT) one. My ECU grad already has a job, 5 weeks prior to graduation. So when you return to oz, maybe it is you wizard who needs the brain, not the scarecrow!

I agree Robert. These are the same people who focus on every law enforcement related story just to berate the cops. These students may have a difficult time finding a job right now, but so will the Duke grads. They accomplished an awesome goal and are making the best of themselves. It's too bad some folks remain jealous and critical of everyone else.

Wizard.. Duke grads will not have a hard time finding work because their mommy and daddy are loaded. Besides, most Duke grads. could not pump gas in their own vehicles, wash their clothes, wash themselves, etc. Common sense goes a long way, and REAL life experiences goes longer. Sorry, but most college kids today simply cannot walk and chew gum. I say strap a rifle on their back, and send their butt overseas. Now, thats reality. I guess wizard could either be the lion (no courage), or scarecrow (no brains)

So in an article focusing on nothing but good, you feel the need to come in here and start comparing schools and who is better. Not necessary.

Welcome to the land of the bad economy ECU PieRats. It's too bad that Duke graduates won't have a hard time getting jobs because they are better qualified.
