Piratefest In Greenville

This year marked the third year for Piratefest in Greenville and the 26th straight year of the Pigskin Pig-out being held.

Contestants for the 26th annual Pigskin Pig-out started cooking Friday night.

Dowdy Ficklen was packed with pigs just after midnight and while the goal was to cook a prize winning hog, it wasn't all work.

The pigs were collected a little after nine Saturday morning and served for lunch.

People enjoyed the food as they raised money for the Pirate Club and had a chance to rub shoulders with other fans of the purple and gold.

The pirate football team was on hand to meet with the fans, take pictures and sign autographs.

Dave, get a life! Everything you post is negative about Greenville! Freedom of speech is one thing. You also have the freedom to leave!

Hey JD, a silly waste of your time is you ever posting a comment on this site to start with. To Bill I understand how you feel, but this brings in WAY MORE money to ECU than it takes out. This is more and more profit. Instead of ever laying off any employees, they need to do one thing I have said for years and years. SAVE Electricity! SAVE Power! If you have to, cut the semesters by a week. The last thing they should do is lay off hard working employees who are helping the students get a first-class high-quality education. BTW, how about Miss. America, Georgeous and Smart Kristen Dalton! She is also a classy girl and is still a friend of my wifes. We are proud of you girl. Last but not least, Piratefest was a blast for me, the wifey, and ny little nephew, and anybody completely against it is a sore and negative person.

What does any of this have to do with the Piratefest people? Our family had a fantastic weekend - from Friday on. I wish there more events like this in town. I was very impressed with the football team at the meet-n-greet. They signed autographs and took pictures with our boy. What a great way to spend a weekend!

I'm with ya Bill. ECU needs to upgrade their buildings and get new busses and quit wasting money on founains, trees, bushes, and the other wastes of money. Greenville wants to cut down on DUI's but yet they put on events that only trigger more. Typical ECU, beer before anything else.

Isn't it amazing how ECU has to cut 150 jobs, but they can still put on special events for the Pirate Club members to get drunk? They are also building a tunnel between two buildings so the maintenance men won't have to walk in the rain and they built a huge new sidewalk at the Brody loading dock for the med students. Let's not even talk about the million dollar fountain they just finished! ECU is just using the economy as an excuse to get rid of the laypeople while they need to be cutting some of the numerous, useless "director" positions at the university. Look at the ECU Police Department's website. They have one supervisor per officer, but they can't afford to get the officer's cars that they don't have to jump start all over campus. ECU is really committed to the safety of their students aren't they?

Pirate Fest is just another way for the money hungry people in the Pirate Club to get more money!
