TEA Parties Across The East

Thousands of protesters across North Carolina are using tax day to show their distaste for government spending and federal bailouts since President Barack Obama took office.

From Charlotte to Edenton, more than two dozen towns and cities
saw protesters holding "tea parties" on Wednesday. WITN covered rallies in Greenville and New Bern where hundreds of people turned out.

Cary resident Mark Isaacs attended a protest in Raleigh holding a sign that showed a taxpayer pulling a cart advertising a free ride. The 50-year-old chemical supplier echoed other protesters' concerns when he said the government must stop spending money it doesn't have. He said his daughters will shoulder the debt.

Other protesters said tax cuts would better stimulate the economy by allowing Americans to keep more of their own money.

It's a high-stress day for income tax procrastinators who have a midnight deadline to file their returns.

It's also going to be a day of protests across the country by people who feel they are Taxed Enough Already -- TEA -- hence the name Tax Day Tea Parties.

Rallies against government spending are scheduled across the nation, more than 235 years after the original Boston Tea Party tax revolt.

Organizers say they're steamed at government spending since President Barack Obama's administration took over.

They started yesterday when about 200 people gathered at the
Missouri state Capitol.

Rallies are planned today in many Eastern Carolina towns, including
Greenville, Jacksonville, New Bern, Morehead City, Goldsboro, Roanoke Rapids, Edenton and Currituck.

Wasteful goverment spending has been going on for years. Every tax paying American has the right to voice their opinion. But, start at your county then go to Raleigh, and then go to Washington. All of these idiots in charge of our money need to be stopped! We need to elect people that live on a set income, but these people cannot afford to run for office because they have a job. ALL Americans need to band together and stop the wasteful spending, but we all need to put aside the Democrate and Republican thing.

Funny how Obama has only been in office for 3 months and the right wing brownshirts are already up in arms. I laugh at these people and their fascist worship. Sorry, your lipstick pig and her grandpa lost. Get over it.

Former Republican, thank you for responding. "Fair and unbiased" taxation probably is Utopian. However, I don't think it is an Utopian idea to have those who receive public money (money from taxes, fees, registrations, etc.) account for where the money goes. Probably my most Utopian Ideal is for everyone who reads and/or comments on any message board to listen to those who disagree with them with the same respect they would like their own posts given.

Did anyone in this country think that the taxpayers wouldn't foot the bill for all the bailouts and liberal pet projects passed? It seems the only ones who don't care about the govt spending spree are the hard core koolaide drinkers and the free cheesers who don't pay taxes to begin with. Most people I've talked to have had a 50% increase in their property taxes this yr. If that's not worthy of protesting, I don't know what is!

Anonymous/Pitt county, Apr 15: So you agree with Obama, "I Won", now I can do any thing I like (and most of the media will go along with him) as well as all the sheep. The point of the Tea Party was not our current taxes but the future taxes. You can not spend trillions without a tax on the citizens. I will assume you have spent all that you have to support the current spend to surive mode of Obama. How much do you have in your wallet?

Hold on... Let me put on my sheep's clothing .. and on top of that ..my republican tee shirt.. *steps up on the podium* .. *walks up to the mic* and yells, "THIS IS FOR YOU AMERICA... THIS IS ALL FOR YOU!"

OBX: If you believe that drivel, I have a wonderful 2002 Kia I'd like to sell you. Just look at the posters/placards/and listen to what the "teabaggers" said during these events. No, this is a bunch of conservatives throwing a temper tantrum about losing the recent election. They have only been out of power now for less than 3 months and they've gone all flaky and demented with a conniption so severe that some are threatening to secede, the seditious ingrates. These are the reasons many of us have chosen to become independents; the republican party is down to its delirious fringe base and it is embarrassing. They will divide further if the inmates continue to run the asylum, making future elections even more difficult. Get a grip "R's" for your own sake. You're being Limbaughed to your own detriment and you seem to enjoy it, except for the results.

Republicans didn't make up things, the CIA and the UK apparently did. Sadam was a murderous dictator that was killing his own people and saying he had WMDs. Obama gave handouts to banks and car companies without conditions. This is happening on his watch thank you. Where every you got info that we had money in the bank during Clintons second term, I strongly suggest you support it with "facts". Again, Mr Mackey, I am a democrat but I am not proud of what is going on. When you stop blaming and start helping, you are only the problem. I did not vote for the chosen one, like I have said, I am not a sheep to be lead by a sheppard of socialism, spending and give away.
