Teen Shot Leaving Neighborhood Gym

A teenager was shot leaving a neighborhood gym, from someone inside a passing SUV, according to Greenville Police.

Detectives say a 17-year-old had some 40 welts on his leg after getting shot with what detectives describe as "rat shot." Police say they responded to the shooting call around 7:45 p.m. Detectives say the teen told them he was shot as he was leaving the South Greenville Gym on Howell St. around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Greenville Recreation and Parks officials say the gym closes at 7 p.m.

The victim's injuries are not considered serious, but he was treated at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Police say the vehicle involved was a burgundy Ford Expedition.

For the record...the teen did not get shot leaving S. Gville gym. Surveillance cams prove that nothing happened near the gym nor was the police seen driving on Skinner or Howell St b/w 7:30-8. It is not fair to report false info and lead local citizens to believe that the community ctr is not safe. It serves a lot of children and no one wants it to have a bad reputation b/c of things that occur in the surrounding neighborhood.

The report concerning a teenager leaving South Greenville Gym on Howell St was shot around 7:45 p.m. is totally misleading and absolutely incorrect, this report gives the South Greenville Recreation Center a negative and corrupt reprutation that's undeserved. The Recreation center closes at 7:00pm and the staff is not responsible for anything happening at the recreation center or in close proximity of the center after closing and/or surrounding neighborhoods. The news media needs to be more careful about reporting data which they have no proof. We the community desire that they publicly resend all that's been reported. P.S. We have taken the position to submit a written petition with community signatures if action is not taken to resend this misleading and corrupt comments.
