East Carolina University tested a new emergency notification system Thursday that officials hope will get the message out to those in harm's way during an emergency in a fast and efficient manner.
The I.P. Phone Broadcast Systems relays a voice and text message through the Cisco I.P. phones. The phones are installed in several offices and classroom, the Heart Institute and in other locations on west campus.
The next phase of this project will include loud speakers placed throughout campus to alert students on a variety of emergencies, from severe weather to dangerous intruders.
The university hopes to complete that phase by fall 2009.
