Doctors On Call

More than 30 local physicians spent Wednesday answering your phone calls and your medical questions for this years annual Doctors On Call Event.

From noon until 6pm, several area physicians volunteered their time to offer free medical advise to people all across Eastern Carolina.

Callers asked about ailments ranging from back pain to headaches -- even questions about having the flu!

It's a service, Paul Cunningham, with the Brody School of Medicine says is their sole purpose.

Last year more than 500 callers talked with experienced doctors of various specialties, this year trumped last year though with 621 calls!

About 7 years ago I was sitting in my living room with a good friend of mine... We saw that Doctors on call where in the mall in Greenville (I think) and they were taking calls, she looks at me and says, "Do you think they are really doctors?" I tell her that ...I don't know why they would lie, so.. she says, "I'm going to use your phone in the bedroom and call them"... I said OK.... After about 10 minutes she sits on my love seat and says ,"He said, "I have herpes, and if I haven't been with anyone else... my boyfriend has cheated on me." .. We bust out laughing and falling over in the sofa and love seat. ... 7 years later and she takes valtex EVERYDAY! That one call made her go to the doctor.. she indeed had it, and she had been in pain for I don't know how long. ...WOW...
