Free pizza and a front row seat to an actual tasing demonstration. That's exactly what happened at East Carolina University Wednesday afternoon.
ECU Police officers used this opportunity to talk to students about their methods of force at the department. It's the first event of its kind at ECU.
Police Chief Scott Shelton says they did the demonstration to keep students informed about this controversial means of force. "We believe and other police departments believe that that's the preferred method rather than going to physically aggressive hands-on. Certainly before the baton because the baton, if not used correctly, could cause some serious injuries."
Shelton says they plan to hold monthly meetings with student to keep the lines between them and the students open.
